Melbourne – Consultant Technical Design

A role has become available in our Design team and we are now seeking a Technical Design Consultant. For this role, the ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about road design and wants to be involved in a variety of complex small-medium sized projects.

You will be required to coordinate and deliver tasks and outcomes for complex projects involving engineering expertise, as well as assign work and review it for technical accuracy. Not only will you be required to design and draft using custom based AUTOCAD and 12D modelling software from time to time you will also be required to assist with the planning, direction, coordination, and supervision of the work of other technical staff as required.

At GTA you will be given the opportunity to be involved in the full project lifecycle on projects such as:

  • Intersections – new and modified layouts for roundabouts (single, multi‐lane), traffic signal controlled (urban and rural), grade separated and other simple priority controlled intersections
  • Roads – new and modified road schemes i.e., road alignments, turn lanes, road duplications and widening, grade separation, entry / exit ramps to freeways, signage and linemarking additions and alterations
  • Car Parks – small and large car parks (at‐grade and in some cases multi‐level) including ramping systems and access points
  • Transport Facilities – bus interchanges, tram super‐stops, taxi ranks
  • Bicycle Facilities – on and off-road bicycle lanes and pathways

Furthermore, as we are now part of a much larger organisation (22,000 staff worldwide and growing) together there will be opportunities that further broaden the variety of projects we collectively work on.

Experience and skills required:

  • Proficient in 12D software
  • Proficient in AUTOCAD software
  • Experience in Microstation beneficial but not essential
  • Road design experience (intersection design and road widening etc.)
  • Strong understanding of road design concepts
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings and how they are prepared
  • High level of analytical/reasoning/problem solving skills
  • Understanding of VicRoads and DOT standards would be beneficial
